Welcome to the Captain James Ormond Chapter, NSDAR!
The Captain James Ormond Chapter, National Society Daughters of the Revolution (NSDAR), is located in Ormond Beach, Florida, between Flagler Beach to the north and Daytona Beach to the south. The present-day city is named for James Ormond, an Anglo-Irish-Scottish sea captain who was hired by the King of Spain in 1807 to bring Spanish settlers to Florida. He acquired land through a Spanish land grant to begin his own plantation.
We are near a beautiful beach on the Atlantic Ocean and the verdant Tomoka State Park. At the turn of the 20th century, John D. Rockefeller bought a home in Ormond Beach and spent winters in his home, The Casements. In 1903, the sands of Ormond Beach became a testing ground for automobile drivers who set speed records on our hard packed beach. Ormond Beach is known as the Birthplace of Speed.
