The Naples-on-the-Gulf Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), was organized on December 8, 2014, with 15 organizing members. We are one of the newest chapters in the Florida State Society Daughters of the American Revolution. We were established as an evening chapter, to suit the time availability of our members who may not be available to meet during the day.

Our name represents the historic nickname for Naples, Florida. The city name of Naples caught on when, in 1881, an investor and developer described the local bay as "surpassing the bay in Naples, Italy." 1 However, to distinguish Naples, Florida, from the better known Naples, Italy, promoters used the nickname Naples-on-the-Gulf. The nickname, with hyphens, caught on and was used on postcards, travel guides, and is today incorporated on the official city seal.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a non-profit organization, formed in 1890 in Washington, D.C. The NSDAR's goals are the perpetuation of the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American independence by the preservation of historical relics and locations, as well as records of their individual service, the encouragement of research and publication of historical documents, the promotion of patriotism and love of country, and the support of educational facilities. The Naples-on-the-Gulf Chapter, NSDAR, supports these goals.

Please contact us to find out more information about our chapter and to inquire about becoming a member.
