Wreaths across America –
Marco Island’s first Wreaths across America ceremony took place on December 14, 2019. Marco Island Chapter, veterans, and citizens of Marco Island sponsored more than 200 wreaths so that we were able to remember each veteran in Marco Island Cemetery by placing a beautiful wreath on each grave.
JROTC Award –
Each year the Marco Island Chapter sponsors the ROTC Medal program. A bronze medal is presented to a junior or senior cadet in the JROTC program at Lely High School, Naples, Florida. The cadet must rank in the upper 25% of their class in both ROTC and academic subjects. This cadet must also have demonstrated qualities of dependability, good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability, and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of ROTC training.
American History Essay Contest –
This contest was established to encourage young people to think creatively about our nation’s great history. Each academic year, a unique essay topic is chosen and guidelines are made available to all students in grades 5-8, in all Marco Island schools including those students who are home schooled. One essay, from each grade level, is selected and forwarded to the American History chairman for entry into the Florida State competition. Chapter winners are presented with a certificate and a bronze medal.
Celebrate America –
Marco Island Chapter honors our heritage through combined community service. We give back to our community in thanks for our great nation. Marco Island’s Veterans Park displays the DAR paver and a lovely poinciana tree donated by our chapter. Upon entering the island, one is able to view the United States flag also donated by our chapter.
Scholarship –
Marco Island Chapter presents a yearly scholarship award to a graduating Marco Island resident. The recipient must be matriculated to an accredited college or university and complete an essay.
