Our chapter meets from October through May. Although our many Snowbirds leave us for the summer, we have several less formal events during that time. We use those opportunities to have some fun, make new friends and socialize.


October 7, 2019
Hickory Bluff, NSDAR Daughters were proud to be part of the dedication of Solaris Healthcare’s Wall of Heroes, a display that honors Solaris residents who served in the military. The unveiling and dedication of the wall took place on October 7, 2019.

October 9, 2019
It was a proud morning and the culmination of a great amount of work on October 9, 2019 when the historic Hickory Bluff Mound Marker was unveiled and dedicated. Representatives from FSSDAR and several local chapters joined Hickory Bluff Daughters and community notaries at the dedication ceremony. It should be noted that erection of the marker was made possible through the sponsorship of Hickory Bluff Chapter, NSDAR, and HB’s partnership with the Charlotte County Historical Center Society.

October 10, 2019
Those in attendance at the October 10, 2019 meeting of Hickory Bluff Chapter, NSDAR, were the lucky recipients of a tour of the DAR schools. Featured speaker Carole Cornell led everyone on an adventure and drove the yellow school bus that transported everyone virtually from school to school. Each stop along the way brought information and insights about the six DAR schools. Carole is the Florida State DAR Co-Chair for DAR schools.

Brewster Baker Society, CAR, President, Alex Chenger, presented information about Brewster Backer Society, its programs, and how Hickory Bluff Daughters can become involved with the CAR society.

New members inducted at the October 10 meeting were new Karen Brooks, Kathleen Casagranda, and Darylann Wagner.

Transfer members recognized at the October 10 meeting were Jean Fleming, Sharon Goding, Julia Lozano, Susan Matthews, and Ruth Wagley.

October 11, 2019
In honor of the National Day of Service, on October 11, two teams of HB Daughters expressed their thanks and appreciation to the dedicated workers at Englewood and Port Charlotte Tidewell Hospices. In addition to heartfelt personal recognition expressed by the HB Daughters, sweet treats were provided.

October 17, 2019
On October 17 HB Daughters had the privilege of welcoming 71 new U.S. citizens. Both HB Regent Debi Allen, and HB Honorary Regent Valerie Colbert gave words of encouragement to the new citizens. Debi, Valerie, and Connie Cunningham shook the new citizens hands, congratulated them, and presented them with goody bags.


October 19, 2019
On October 19 HB Daughters, in coordination with Brewster Baker Society members, manned a table at the 2019 Veteran Family Fun Day. Provided at the table were stickers and other goodies as well as information about Hickory Bluff and Brewster Baker.


October 26, 2019
It was an enthusiastic, dedicated, and hard-working group who joined together early on Saturday, October 26 for the annual fall cleanup at the Hickory Bluff Cemetery. Gorgeous weather and many helping hands made for another successful Hickory Bluff historical preservation undertaking.
November 16, 2019
On Saturday, November 16 Charlotte Bay and Hickory Bluff DAR Chapters came together to sponsor a genealogy workshop focusing on supplemental patriots. The featured speaker was FSSDAR Volunteer Genealogist for Area 11 and HB Registrar Katherine Adamo. Attendees were treated to wonderful insights from Katherine to make their supplemental research easier and their supplemental DAR applications successful.
November 14, 2019
“We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men and women are created equal.” And so the words of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony echoed through the halls of the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club during the November 14, 2019 meeting of Hickory Bluff Chapter, NASDAR. The Hickory Bluff Players composed of Katherine Adamo, Buffy Bohach, Connie Cunningham, Jilly Shively, and Lory Weisensee brought to life the Suffragette Movement and delighted all in attendance. The Hickory Bluff Player dramatization was followed by a presentation by Jean Finks, a representative of the Port Charlotte League of Women Voters.
New members inducted at the November 14 meeting were Connie Friess, Jacqueline Martin, and Mary Jane Sanger.
