The Warners moved to Punta Gorda Isles on Christmas Day 1971 and Verna became re-acquainted with a high school friend, Florence Bishop, who wanted to become a DAR member. Verna and Florence started looking for the closest chapter and found chapters located in Ft. Myers, Arcadia and Venice; too far to attend regular meetings.
They became acquainted with Mary Tucker, who was a member of the Caloosahatchee Chapter, NSDAR in Fort Myers. Mary arranged a meeting at her home where they were informed how to go about starting a chapter in Punta Gorda. Mary Carter, of Myakka Chapter, NSDAR in Venice, assisted in the formation of the chapter. An article appeared in the local paper asking anyone interested in forming a DAR chapter to contact Verna. She received many calls.
On June 18, 1973, Hannah Jones, Florida State Regent, and Lydia McNeil, State Vice Regent, attended a meeting at the home of Phoebe Burke and Charlotte Bay Chapter, NSDAR was organized. The chapter received its charter on October 19, 1973, with the following Officers and Members.
