Rosenfield receives DAR Medal of Honor

MELBOURNE BEACH – The Satellite Beach chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented Major George Rosenfield, US Army (Ret.), the DAR’s highest award – the Medal of Honor – at a recent ceremony.

Rosenfield received the honor for his service as a ski trooper in the famed U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division in World War II, as an engineer officer during the Korean War, and for his continuing ser­vice to the community.

The DAR Medal of Honor is awarded to native-born United States citizens, who have shown extraordinary qualities of leadership, trustworthiness, service, and patriotism. The recipient must have made unusual and lasting contributions to the. American heritage by giving of himself or herself to his or her commu­nity, state, country, and follow man.

The prestigious award was presented to Rosenfield by Melbourne DAR Satel­lite Beach Chapter Regent, Bonnie Charles. At tlie ceremony, Rosenfield spoke about his World War II and Kore­an War experiences, and accepted the award on behalf of all those that served in those conflicts.

Rosenfield is an active member of the Military Officers Association of Ameri­ca, Cape Canaveral Chapter (MOAACC) and the Jewish War Veterans of Amer­ica. Rosenfield was also recently recog­nized as the Jewish-American War Vet­eran of the year, and will receive a Quilt of Valor.
